A best of...
China's population, which is currently at 1.2bn, will peak at 1.6bn about 10 years from now, according to Martyn Davies, Director of Asia at Emerging Markets, during a seminar at the Stellenbosch Woord Fees (2006). The peak is due to the one child policy of the 80's. The current ratio for rural to urban living in china is 60% rural to 40% urban. China’s migratory patterns are following the world trend of 20% rural to 80% urban. We will soon see a country where 1.28bn people are living in cities. Just to put it in perspective: New York boasts with a population of just over 8 million people. The world will see a single country with 160 New York cities. The USA might be lucky if they even receive an honourable mention in the Best Skylines of the World a couple of years from now.
